The holiday season is a gentle reminder that whatever you may have been doing the past 11 months, may or may not have provided ideal results so it’s time to switch things up. This is applicable to probably every aspect of our lives but right now I am speaking of skincare!
The frigid temps and dry air outside can make our skin thirst for moisture and hydration, so this is the perfect time to consider switching things up as we head into the New year.
Now typically, skincare goals can vary depending on skin types a
Common skincare concerns are hydration, hyperpigmentation, crow's feet, puffy under eyes, dark circles, acne, etc. I would like to share my experience using a couple of products.
Let’s Skin into it!
End of summer, Good Molecules sent me a PR box of products. Because I don’t consider myself the “typical” influencer, I was not in a rush to share results or information about the product until I had used a great amount of it over time...I didn't want to lie to yall!
I began using the product sporadically, but then I had to halt it altogether because I had a really bad breakout, and the products from Food Molecules were not an acne system (always consider that when thinking about skincare goals).
Here is what happened when I used it consistently…
When using Good Molecules, my skin had a glow and felt very hydrated. Now, these terms are not to be confused with shining or greasiness. My skin appeared to simply be hydrated and healthy.
My Advice
If you are an individual with combination skin, I highly recommend Good Molecules. Additionally, the company prides itself on being not only fragrance-free but also transparent about sharing the ingredients that are in each product and the ppm (parts per million) for each ingredient. Additionally, if you suffer from hyperpigmentation, their products do garner results.
Last year, I decided to purchase only beauty products that were formulated for Black Skin, hair, and wellness. I came across Mele and I was immediately intrigued. For starters, the co-creator is dermatologists of color, one being Dr. Laura Scott whose content I had been following for years. Additionally, the founders were two Black Women who were leaders at Unilever, which is an international consumer goods brand responsible for tons of other beauty brands. However, to see two of their leaders identify a gap in the marketplace and quickly provide solutions, I was intrigued. I bought all of their products.
Here is what happened when I used it consistently
When using Mele consistently, I noticed moisture and a glow to my skin that carried on the next morning into the afternoon (yes as a mom I cannot get to some things until around 12:30). Also, there was a beautiful yet gentle fragrance that is not overtly bold. The glow from my skin was so infectious that my teen daughter wanted to try the products and has been using them for a year now.
My Advice
Remember your skin goals and keep in mind what you would like to accomplish. This product is great if you have hyperpigmentation and if you desire products that keep your skin healthy and balanced.
Listen, some things just work! I know when people think of household skincare brands that have been around for a long time, the perception is it’s not good. However, for me, when I begin to have really bad acne breakouts, I think about my overall skin health (what I have and haven’t been doing) and if I can identify what the potential problem is. When this happens, I use the OG’s. I know this is not a one size fits all situation.
Here is what happened when I used it Consistently
When using Neutrogena the acne began to go away. As with any skincare system, I like to use the entire system so for this, I used the Rapid Clear system, consisting of facial cleanser, toner, and treatment pads. I used the products for about 3-4 weeks.
My Advice
Remember not all acne is created equal. Because I have a pretty good working knowledge of my skin, I was confident that this product was going to work well for my Acne breakout. This Rapid Clear system, I do not recommend if your acne challenges are long-standing. This is great for the individual that may have acne-prone skin but does not struggle with it on a consistent basis.
All In All
As we approach the end of the year, this is a great opportunity to create skin care goals and research products that could help you achieve those goals.
As with everything, if you feel your skin care challenges are not being remedied don't be afraid to contact a dermatologist.
Skincare products are great stocking stuffers...so don't forget to tell Santa.
Happy Day 6 of Blogmas!
