Snow Days: Indoor Fun For Your Kids

Writer: ErickaEricka

As we head into subzero temperatures in Chicago, I wanted to share some tips with parents as we not only brave the cold temps but brave the next couple days at home with children ALL DAY LONG. Now, if you are a SAHM and you have littles at home all day, I want you to take this opportunity to allow your kiddos to bond with the older kids or hand them off to your spouse because you could use a couple DAYTIME minutes to yourself!

PLEASE be mindful the temps will be dangerously low. Please do not allow those crazy teens to do any challenges or anything silly as the cold temps are said to be unsafe. Also, this is not the time to play in the snow...save that for a later date. Here is a list of fun activities for your children INDOORS!

LET’S PLAY SUMMER: If you follow my insta stories, you saw my littles “play summer” and it was a great time for them. Pull out the water table and bring it indoors. Crank up the heat in the house and let them have fun. If you don’t have a water table, put on swim suits and play in the tub with lots of toys. Also, you can Blow bubbles and if you have a chalk board, play with the chalk.

*MOM HACK: No chalk board, use a brown paper bag and tape it down!

MOVIE TIME: Pop some popcorn, bring out all the snacks and watch a couple movies.

BORED (Board) GAMES: I am sure your children will say they are bored. Well, break out the board games and put their boredom to the test!

COOK - This is the perfect opportunity for your kids to try out a couple recipes. Just make sure they clean up afterwards!

GET TIDY: Yes, I know this is not how many kids intend on spending a snow day, however, it's a good time to get caught up on household chores that have taken a backseat...like laundry.

PICASSO IT OUT: Bring out the paint, brushes and paper and let the kids be kids. We all know that painting can get messy, so make sure the kids have a smock or apron.

INDOOR SNOWBALL FIGHT: After all, it is a snow day! If you have some of those ball pit ball that use those for a good time, OR dig in the recycle bin and ball up paper into balls and have fun. Afterwards, you can put them back into the recycle bin.

More importantly, mamas, merely brave the days. Make sure you have groceries stocked up, plenty of snacks and put on your patience hat because you will need it. On the bright side, this is a chance to sleep in or cook a nice hot breakfast and catch up on Netflix while your children play. Stay warm! Please tag me in all the fun! Need more ideas?
